OrthoRad is a comprehensive offline reference database designed for skeletal radiography, serving both medical technical radiologists (MTRs) and physicians in their daily clinical practice.

The growing demand for reference image databases in the realm of handheld digital devices is driven by the increasing need for practicality and the rising use of digital workstations for radiological assessments. Such databases offer clear advantages in projection radiography and cross-sectional imaging, facilitating accurate diagnosis and standardized interpretation.

The objective of the OrthoRad project was to develop a reference database focused on traumatological skeletal radiographs. Over the course of one year, core standard images alongside specialized views of healthy young adults were systematically collected and reviewed by specialists before inclusion into the database. The collection process was aligned with the typical workflows of MTRs and physicians, and the images were organized according to anatomical regions.

While MTRs have access to information on patient positioning and cassette formats, physicians are provided with essential details regarding radiographic anatomy, normative data for the human skeleton, and guidance on common traumatological and orthopaedic conditions. This structured compilation aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy and consistency in skeletal radiography interpretation.
